FIXED SPANS: July 22nd Art Opening at City Hall

The PDX Bridge Festival is very excited to work with City Hall to bring you FIXED SPANS, a site-specific installation that makes use of the open atrium at City Hall to demonstrate the shifting perspectives of this civic space. The installation opens during PDX Pop Now! Festival’s free concert at City Hall on July 22nd.

PDX Bridge Festival’s collaborative team of artists will create an optical illusion installation using only masking tape and the Willamette River Bridges as subject matter. How does it work? The installation consists of low-tack colored painters tape on the atrium walls that first appear as a random assortment of lines. When viewed from fixed spots at the four corners of the atrium, the lines coalesce into recognizable forms, creating a superimposed 2D image over a multi-faceted 3D surface.

Come stop by the South Atrium on the lower level of City Hall from July 21 to August 9 to view the exhibit and learn more about the PDX Bridge Festival, Portland’s newest cultural arts festival.
