The People’s Republic of Portland (PROP) was co-founded by local artist Jennifer Forti. Jen wanted to help create well-designed, responsibly sourced and stylish clothing with a conscience and a message: Community makes all the difference.

PROP supports local, like-minded businesses and non-profits through promotion, sponsorship, donation, and the sale of a hip line of clothing.  We make it our mission to model progressive change.

When you wear PROP you are not only helping to give back to the community, your are affirming everything that makes Portland a haven for artists, thinkers, nurturers, and all who want a better world—and every smile at the “Republic” motif can renew our understanding that we are a community: strong, thriving, beautiful. The seeds of what makes Portland wonderful can be sown around the world.

HAWTHORNE BRIDGE WOODCUT

“Hawthorne Bridge” Woodcut (limited edition) —$200

Craig Conahan’s iconic woodcut of the Hawthorne Bridge has become something of a favorite around here. Not only did we make it the centerfold of the 2010 calendar and turn it into a shirt, we also use it on our letterhead! We think you’ll love it too, which is why we are offering a limited edition, handmade print of the image on archival paper. Also available framed.

About the art: Woodcut with Chine-colle on archival paper. 19×38 inches.

STEEL BRIDGE BELT BUCKLE

Steel Bridge Belt Buckle — $275

When local jewelry designer Lolo showed us her custom Steel Bridge belt buckle it was love at first sight!  “The river—and symbolically the bridges—are incredibly special to me personally,” she says, “and in that spirit, I created a sterling silver belt buckle as a tribute. It celebrates not only the Steel Bridge, but Oregon as well, with Portland especially highlighted by an Oregon Sunstone set in it’s place.” Weighing in at 3.5 ounces of pure silver with a mirror finish, the belt buckle also features a 4mm faceted gem that is mined locally. The buckle measures approximately 3″ x 2.25″, and can fit belt straps up to 1.5″ wide. Each piece is made special for the buyer, so please allow two weeks for delivery.
