Burnside Bridge "DrawBridge" Project

Artist sketch: Gabe Shaughnessy

burnsidenightThis program has sent local artists and art teachers into
classrooms to work with schoolchildren as part of the Portland Public School District third grade curriculum on bridges. For this year’s pilot project, over 120 students have been tasked with creating works of graphic art representing the role of the Willamette River Bridges in our regional identity and transportation infrastructure. Chosen graphics will then be printed on 38 full-color, double-sided banners, and installed for the duration of the festival on the lamp posts along the thoroughfare of the Burnside Bridge.

PDX Bridge Festival wishes to thank Muse Art + Design for providing the drawing materials, and art teachers JulieAnne Poncet and Cindy Lommasson for volunteering their time in Portland’s third grade classrooms. The following Portland Public School classes participated in this year’s DrawBridge:

Gail Burak – Capitol HIll Elementary
Karen Bunnell – Atkinson Elementary
Rhonda Weekley – Forest Park Elementary
Charolette Hales – Bridlemile Elementary

We look forward to presenting the students’ artwork during the 2010 PDX Bridge Festival.

Total audience: 615,000 (not including pedestrians and non-vehicle traffic!)

Any chance that private school third graders can participate. We are very interested.
Thanks in advance for your consideration,
Sharon
