The Hawthorne Bridge 2010 Centennial Calendar is now for sale!
This four-color, 12-month calendar features the work of 49 Portland-area artists who have used the 1910 Hawthorne Bridge as the subject of oil paintings, watercolors, woodblock prints, tapestry, photographs (B&W and color), digital art, metalwork, sculpture, as well as a poem. There is even a silkscreen of the bridge printed with locally harvested walnut oil!
Each month includes a bit of information about the Hawthorne, which is the oldest vertical lift bridge in the country—likely the world. The centerfold—suitable for framing—combines Paulann Petersen’s poem, “The Willamette Calendar”, with a 19″x12″ vertical woodcut by Craig Conahan.
Printed by Witham and Dickey in Northeast Portland, the calendar was created by the Friends of Multnomah County’s Willamette River Bridges under the sponsorship of MetroEast Community Media, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Hawthorne Bridge 2010 Calendar follows up on the 2009 Portland-Vancouver Bridges & Rivers Calendar, also produced by the Friends. Net proceeds from calendar sales will support the PDX Bridge Festival.
